Today, 22.12.2009.god (Tuesday), on the Square of the children of Sarajevo's, in front of BBI Center, between 11:00-13:00 pm, at the promotional booth citizens had the opportunity to sign and send New Year greetings to politicians. Greetings are also and demand to responsible governmental representatives in both entities and at state level to unblock the process of adopting laws on environmental protection at the state level. In addition of these greetings to politicians, volunteers share to citizens the gift suitable pocket calendars. In Sarajevo, during two hours of action citizens were signed about 400 cards.
In addition to Sarajevo, the campaign has in same time started in seven cities in B&H: Brcko, Derventa, Doboj, Lopare, Lukavac, Tuzla and Ugljevik.
This action, we sought the support of citizens for passing the Law on Environmental Protection / Environment on state level of B&H, which is already several years open question regarding to process of approximation to EU.
EU and other countries need a single partner and representative in area of environmental activities, for the exchange of information in this area. According the Dayton Agreement jurisdiction over the environment remains at the entity level, which in many ways makes difficult to work and communicate with other countries when it comes to environmental protection.
Draft legislation in June / July 2009th created a working group which was composed of representatives from all levels of government (and state and entity). To the Minister Zirojeviæ could go with him to the Council of Ministers he needs the consent of the entity and because of this we send greetings and entity governments to motivate them to give consent. Since these same government delegated its representatives to the working group for drafting the law effectively means that they have nothing against, but in addition to accumulated other issues related to these issues for the environment / environment simply not a priority for them.
This campaign is one of the activities BELLS movement, which member was the organization "Ekotim", which is the result of the regional project "Regional Environmental Advocacy / REA Action and Cohesion in Western Balkans", whose aim is to protect the environment / environment is a priority in decision-making at all levels of government. The project is being implemented in Bosnia next five Western Balkan countries.
